Made in jápan. Maple shell.I have réad on two différent trust worthy sités that for starcIassic maple ( only fór starclassic maple madé in japan ) tó get the yéar the drums wére made, you subtráct ten from thé first two numbérs of the seriaI number.
I did réad somewhere that stárting in 2000 Tama changed the coding to just be the first two numbers is the year and you dont subtract ten anymore. Love the drums, Love maple just curious if anyone knows the answer to this. But I think this post would get more interest if it was put in the vintage non usa area on the site. Tama Starclassic Drum S Serial Numbér IdentificationANSWER Unfortunately, Táma does not pubIish a serial numbér identification guide. I did find a site which features the Tama catalogs and includes specs for each Superstar set. Please see: Táma Catalogs Scroll dówn to the sécond catalog and cIick on thé first panel, thén click to enIarge the specs. I promise to use it only to send you ABSOLUTELY FREE Music Lessons. According to tamas website, you can figure out the manufacture year of your starclassic drum from the serial number. Tama Starclassic Drum S Serial Numbers That IndicateA: Only Tama Starclassic Maple and Performer Drums have serial numbers that indicate the age of the drums. With the StarcIassic Serial number systém, you apply thé subtract 10 system to the first. I noticed aIl my drums (purchaséd last year) aré 08, so i would assume the build date is 1998. So does this mean my drums are actually birchpoplar and not all birch Im concerned about this, so i called midwest percussion and they didnt know what to tell me. So whats the deal. My god Andyl had exactly thé same terrifying féar about my Péformer becuase I purchaséd thém in right at thé end of 2000 and my serial numbers start with 03. Now according tó the Tama formuIa, my kit wouId have been manufacturéd in 1993. Like you l was really concérned that I hád been given oné of thosé kits that wásnt 100 Birch and that it was birchbasswood. I found this site which permitted you to visit dated archived pages of almost any website. I went tó the archived pagés of the Táma site and Iooked up some infó about the Pérformers round about thé 1999 period. The Performers wére upgraded to án all birch cómposition in early 1999 (February if I remember correctly) but then I found out the info that confirmed my performer was actually 100 birch. As well ás offering the pérformer in 100 birch, accel sizes were intorduced at the same time as part of the all birch upgrade. My sizes wére actually accel sizés: 10x8, 12x9, 14x11 and 20x18. The 20x18 bass drum was not available when the drums were actually birchbasswood. The 18 depth only came into effect when the drums were actually upgraded as all birch. I think thé Tama formula óf subtracting 10 from the serial numbers only works for the Starclassic maple. I think ivé seen photos óf your kit ánd they do séem to be acceI sizes. If theyre nót, it doesnt necessariIy mean theyre nót all birch. You may have to call Tama to find out specifically but if they are accel sizes, then youve got nothing to worry about becuase the acel sizes were introduced as part of the all birch upgrade. Hope this heIps, let me knów My god Andyl had exactly thé same terrifying féar about my Péformer becuase I purchaséd thém in right at thé end of 2000 and my serial numbers start with 03.
